Music Composition The music composition class is designed for students who have completed at least Grade 5 music theory and who are interested in learning about how to write music. Students will be introduced to basics of composing music, using the music theory skills they already have. Each student will be guided in the writing of simple songs in a variety of styles such as classical, children's songs, jazz, blues, etc., learning the "rules" for each style of music, when it comes to composition. Each student will write at least one complete piece by the end of the course. The type and complexity of piece will be determined by student interest and ability, e.g. piano solo, flute duet, vocal solo with piano accompaniment, string quartet, full band or orchestra composition.
